FAQ

What is Mysore Style?

Mysore is the heart of the Ashtanga method — a self-paced, meditative practice where each student moves through the sequence individually under the guidance of the teacher. You learn the series over time and receive personalized instruction and optional hands-on support suited to your experience, needs, and daily energy.

This class is open to all levels — from complete beginners learning their first sun salutations to seasoned practitioners refining advanced postures.

Arrival Times:

Experienced students: You may begin your practice anytime between 6 –7 AM, an alarm will sound at 7:50 AM to let you know there are 5 minutes left, then again at 7:55 AM letting you know you need to get up from your mat.

Beginners:

Please arrive between 6 - 7 AM. This allows time for individualized instruction and support while maintaining the quiet rhythm of the room.

What to Expect:

You’ll move at your own pace, guided by your breath and the structure of the series. The teacher moves throughout the space, offering one-on-one assistance and helping you build your practice over time.

Why Practice This Way:

Mysore teaches discipline, patience, and self-awareness. It helps you develop a personal relationship with yoga that grows from within — one breath, one posture at a time. Over time, this becomes your own moving meditation — a practice that grounds you wherever you go.

Is Mysore a 2 hour class?

No, for beginners please allow 30-45 minutes for your practice. Beginners pelase show up between 6 -7 AM.

What is Led Class?

Full Primary Led Class | Saturdays | 7:30 AM

This class follows the traditional Sanskrit count of the full Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga — a dynamic and structured sequence designed to purify the body, steady the mind, and cultivate inner discipline. The teacher guides the group breath by breath, posture by posture, creating a meditative rhythm that connects everyone in the room through shared focus and energy.

Led class is for students who are familiar with the Primary Series and ready to move together as one. It’s not about perfection, but about learning to surrender to the count, find steadiness in the breath, and experience the power of collective practice. Expect to sweat, be humbled, and leave with a deeper understanding of the method and yourself.

Why practice this way:

Led class refines your understanding of rhythm, pace, and breath. It reveals habits you might miss in self-practice and strengthens your concentration and endurance. It’s the weekly check-in that keeps the practice honest.

If you’re new to yoga or have never practiced Ashtanga before, you’re still welcome to attend. Come with a willingness to listen, observe, and rest as needed. The led class is meant to be a learning experience, not a test. The goal isn’t to “keep up,” but to show up, breathe, and allow the structure of the count to guide your awareness.

Is Ashtanga suitable for beginners?

Yes, The Mysore method emphasizes gradual progress. You'll begin with a set of foundational poses and, over time, we will introduce new poses, building upon your existing practice. This allows you to establish a solid foundation before moving on to more challenging asanas.

One of the unique aspects of Mysore Style is the individual attention from the teacher. They will observe your practice, offer hands-on adjustments, and provide personalized guidance to help you refine your alignment and deepen your practice safely.

What should I expect from this practice?

In Mysore Style, you'll receive individualized instruction within a group setting. You'll practice at your own pace in order to memorize the sequence, allowing you to develop a personal connection with the practice and explore your own body and breath.
