Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga offers a self-paced practice suitable for practitioners of all levels, including beginners. It is a traditional and dynamic form of yoga that focuses on synchronizing breath with each movement.
This is not a 2 hour practice but rather you choose a time to show up within the 2 hour scheduled time. For example, you may show up between 7-8am for morning Mysore (practice must end by 9am). For Saturday Led Class doors open at 7:15am.
The lineage of Mysore Style Yoga traces back to the sage Vamana Rishi and the ancient text "Yoga Korunta," which is believed to have been written by the sage himself. The text was rediscovered by Sri T. Krishnamacharya, who became a prominent yoga teacher in the 20th century. Krishnamacharya was the guru of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, who further developed and popularized the Ashtanga Yoga system.
Sharath Jois is the grandson of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and after the passing of Pattabhi Jois in 2009, Sharath assumed the role of director at KPJAYI.
In Mysore Style, you'll receive individualized instruction within a group setting. You'll practice at your own pace in order to memorize the sequence, allowing you to develop a personal connection with the practice and explore your own body and breath.
The Mysore method emphasizes gradual progress. You'll begin with a set of foundational poses and, over time, we will introduce new poses, building upon your existing practice. This allows you to establish a solid foundation before moving on to more challenging asanas.
One of the unique aspects of Mysore Style is the individual attention from the teacher. They will observe your practice, offer hands-on adjustments, and provide personalized guidance to help you refine your alignment and deepen your practice safely.
Are you ready to embark on this transformative journey? Join us for a Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga session and experience the power of this ancient practice in nurturing your body, mind, and soul. No experience necessary—just an open heart and a willingness to explore.
